Book review – The Land Of Storiesc

Hey guys!
I wasn’t planning on doing this review, but I decided to it just this time just because this book is my favourite and the series is my all-time favourite!

Chris Colfer’s Land of Stories is about two twins, Alex and Connor Bailey, who travel into a fairy-tale world through their grandmother’s old fairy-tale book. With the help of their friend Froggy, they find out the only way to get home is the myth of the Wishing Spell. The twins set out on a dangerous journey, but little do they know the Evil Queen is right on the tracks, looking for the same items as them, to use the wishing spell herself. Can the twins find the items before her? Or will they be spending longer in the fairy-tale world then they realise?

The plot is highly engaging and keeps the reader riveted. There were parts of the book that were tense, which made the reader/me keep reading.

The author also put in lots of comedy which kept me laughing throughout this book. For example, Connor is always doing silly things and being sarcastic. So, all in all, the plot was extremely effective.

There are a couple of settings in this book, but the main one was the fairy-tale world. The author describes the setting vividly and I could feel like I was seeing everything for the first time alongside the twins.

Characters…. Where do I start? There are just so many! But, I’ll just tell you the main characters, and my favourite ones too of course!

Alex Bailey is one of the twins. She is brainy, loves studying, and is passionate about fairy-tales. Alex also is the one who does most of the figuring out in the fairy-tale world, the one who makes an effort with all the people and the one who reads the map and finds out where they have to go next.

Connor is Alex’s brother. He is the sarcastic one, the one cracking jokes and lightening the atmosphere. He can sometimes be a bit tactless though, which exasperates Alex. At first, he doesn’t like the fairy-tale world, he misses everything. But soon, he grows to like it, though he still misses home.

Froggy is a frog-man. He had been cursed by a witch to live as a frog for the rest of his days. Froggy is kind-hearted, and he cares deeply for the twins and is concerned for their safety. Froggy helps the twins, he tells them about the Wishing Spell, and he sends them off with enough food and supplies to last them a few days. However, a surprise awakes him at the end of the story, one that could change his life forever.

Goldilocks is a woman on the run. She had been accused of theft and has been running from the law ever since. Goldilocks is probably one of my favourite characters, since she is strong and fearless, but she’s also caring and kind. She has a horse named porridge, a cream coloured horse that she rides and is almost like her best friend.

Jack is a well-known man from the Red Riding Hood Kingdom. He is the one who killed the giant as a boy, which made him highly respected throughout the kingdom. He’s kind but sad, but no one knows why. Until the twins find out.

Red Riding Hood is the queen of the Red Riding Hood Kingdom. She is incredibly vain and has statues of herself all over castle, as well as portraits. She is deeply in love with Jack, but he is not in love with her. His heart belongs to someone else. But changes throughout the story, for the better.

The theme of this story is that love will always guide you through things. In this novel, love is what gets them through everything. The twins love for each other and their love for their mother hep them through everything. So message in this novel is that love and friendship are the most important things in life.

The book was written in third person, which was very effective because it allowed the reader to discover different character’s point of view and become more involved. This even makes the reader feel sorry for the antagonists.

All in all, this book was simply thrilling and I would highly recommend it as I have enjoyed it immensely.

I hope you enjoyed this blog post, see you in my next post!

Today I cleared out the garden with my Dad and my brother, I also cleaned my rabbit and guinea pig hutch. My mum bought me and my brother some magnum ice creams as a treat, they were delicious!

We had 708 deaths in the UK today. Boris Johnson’s fiancee has now had coronavirus, which is not good as she is pregnant, I hope she’s ok.

See you later!

569 deaths today, the cases are getting worse and worse. What worries me is that people with no underlying people with health conditions are dying. Today, 44 people died with no underlying health conditions of the coronavirus.

Today we went to the park, and looked for things to draw, I also played for a bit, (on facetime) with my cousin, which was fun. I also had my skype physio lesson. I watched some tv programmes and watched some youtube videos.

I guess see you later!

563 deaths in the UK today, the ministers have been urging people to stay at home, with the wild death toll around.

Today I did some art and I went to the park, I also played with my brother and chatted with my mum and dad.

I played Minecraft with my friends and had a drama class, that was quite fun.

See you later

The youngest person in the UK has now died of coronavirus, a 13-year-old boy, with no apparent underlying health conditions. We also had 381 deaths today, the deaths have gone up dramatically.

I face-timed my cousin today, and we chatted for a bit. I also played Minecraft with my friends and had my English class. I did my maths and we went for a walk. I noticed as we crossed the road that usually, we would have to wait for about a minute or two, now, however, we crossed the road almost immediately, less and less people each day are coming out.

I also played with my brother for a bit and had dinner, after I have written this, I will go to bed.

I guess see you tomorrow!

We had 180 deaths today. I had a creative writing class, it was quite fun. We also went to the park today and did some cooking and stitching.  At the park, I noticed that everyone stayed away from each other, or they veered to the side.

The equipment was also barred off, so that no one could use it. I’ somehow don’t feel so worried about the coronavirus anymore, even though the death cases have risen. I really hope this goes away soon.

See you!

Today we had 260 deaths in the UK, I feel like there will be a peak, so the deaths will get really bad around the peak. Then they will go back down again. I also think the virus will go away with the heat, as most viruses will get killed with heat.

We are hoping to go in the summer, if the situation in the UK improves, to Pakistan, to see my grandmother and cousins. It will be nice to see her, but if the situation is bad then we will not go. As we do not want her to catch anything, (or us too catch anything!) and give it to her from an airport.

Today we went to the meat shop, I’ve noticed a LOT of people have started wearing face masks, it felt quite weird to see people wearing them though. I also played Minecraft and played board games with my family.

Today we had 181 deaths in the Uk, that is a LOT of deaths, also, Boris Johnson just got confirmed with coronavirus. I hope he is ok.

From next week, NHS workers will be tested for coronavirus, which is good so that they can see if they have it.

Today Mum was at work, so me and my brother cleaned the kitchen together while my Dad was working in the study. I also made lunch. We also played together for a while, which was quite fun.

Tomorrow we will, (hopefully!) be going for a walk, that will be nice. I’m hoping that we will, through every day this week my Mum as been saying we would go and we didn’t. Oh well, we have a lot more work to do now, ie cleaning, more cooking and so much more!
See you later!
